Jessica Carmody

Biography

Jessica Carmody (she/her) is a contemporary artist and arts worker living and working in the Tulmer (Ipswich) and Meanjin (Brisbane) regions of Queensland, Australia. Within her creative practice, she uses installation, printmaking, and moving-image to investigate memory, corporeal and incorporeal traces, and domestic archives by examining personal and social feminist constructs of gender and the home. Jessica achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) in 2017 and a Master of Philosophy (Creative Practice) in 2021 both from QUT. Currently, she is undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (Creative Arts) degree at QUT researching depictions of the ‘haunted home’ and the spectral in contemporary women’s art. Within the arts community, Jessica serves as a Co-Director of Boxcopy ARI, an artist-run initiative in Meanjin, works as a Sessional Academic at QUT, and is involved with a number of arts writing and publishing projects.
